Lampshade making is a creative craft which has largely become forgotten during recent years.
It is not always easy to find ready made shades that work well within a room scheme, so for those who enjoy making things for the home and are happy to pay attention to detail, this is a skill worth acquiring.
Participants will produce a medium sized handmade shade using the traditional techniques which involve stretching the fabric (Usually Silk) over the frame using the traditional pinning method and fully lining the shade with what is known as balloon lining. Lampshade design will be discussed; modern, traditional and new directions, as well as proportion and embellishment.
In addition, advanced techniques will be shown such as pleating, sunray's and swathing. All materials are provided.
