Following coffee and pastries in the stylish vaulted basement of the National Portrait Gallery, we will start our day by viewing the annual prestigious BP Portrait and BP travel award, accompanied by a specialist curator.
After lunch we will explore the gallery's contemporary collections with a curator and Les Tuileries resident artist/tutor for a critical frame work in which to place our own work.
The following two days will include working from a variety of references and a model, with excercises in measuring, tonal work and proportion. Although our course will concentrate on mainly drawing, we will have the opportunity to explore different medium and have an introduction to using colour.
In pursuit of that illusive likeness, students will also have fun with a self portrait!
All abilities are welcome including beginners.
All materials will be provided except for a free standing mirror for a self portrait.
